Talk on Qualitative Research by Prof David Silverman

I am pleased to invite you to a lecture by Professor Emeritus Dr David Silverman, entitled “FRAMING RESEARCH QUESTIONS FOR QUALITATIVE RESEARCH” .

Details of the lecture are as follows:

For your information, Dr David Silverman is Professor Emeritus in the Sociology Department of Goldsmiths’ College, London University and Visiting Professor in the Management Department, King’s College, London University. For the past ten years, Professor Emeritus Dr David Silverman has been giving workshops on effective qualitative research for graduate students and staff in universities in Europe, Africa, Asia and Australia.

In this introductory lecture, he discusses why research students often mistake the role of qualitative research. He shows what qualitative research can offer, using examples from across the social sciences.

Apart from qualitative methodology, his interests are in organizations, medical encounters and all face-to-face interaction. He is the author of fifteen books and over fifty journal articles and chapters. He also edits a Sage Series called “Introducing Qualitative Methods” which has produced around 30 books.

COURSE CODE EBB6213

SYNOPSIS Students will be introduced to the development of competence in
strategic thinking; use of critical analysis in the diagnosis of
organizational problems, and also application of
entrepreneurial-leadership skills in managing an organization.
Topics covered include experiential exercises on developing
business ideas, feasibility analysis, business plan;
decision-making processes, leader-member relations, approach to
solving problems, conflict resolution, interaction of styles and
leadership disciplines. Related topics such as the challenge of
designing an appropriate business strategy, managing
organizational change, and resistance to change will also be
highlighted.


COURSE TITLE MONEY, BANKING AND FINANCIAL MARKET
COURSE CODE EBB6143

SYNOPSIS The main objective is to analyze and understand the financial
markets and instruments, principal forces that are shaping money
and financial markets, and implications for the firm and the
individual investor. Money creation, the demand for money, and
the relation of money to inflation and financial flows are
explored. Interest rates are analyzed in the context of portfolio
choice and their behavior is critically discussed. Emphasis is also
placed on the changing roles of the financial system in a modern
market-oriented economy, and the effects of these changes on the
flow of funds and monetary policy. The course also covers an
analysis of financial opportunities and risks resulting in global
market investment, with a focus on international portfolio
diversification and management.

COURSE TITLE INVESTMENT
COURSE CODE EBB6153

SYNOPSIS This subject is designed to enable students to demonstrate and
apply knowledge of savings and investment opportunities
available to the general public, and to assess customers,
investment problems and needs. Examine the different types of
securities, including insurance, investment (capital growth
with/without income), pensions and other forms of investment,
including swaps and derivatives. Explain the regulation of, and
procedures relating to the trading of securities and new issues in
the world markets, including the Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange.
Apply the principle of investment theory, security and market
analysis and efficiency, including risk and return, risk
management techniques, fundamental and technical analysis,
diversification and performance measurement. Explore practical
investment considerations, including takeovers and mergers,
meetings and resolutions, disclosure of interests, sources of
information, legislation, and investment by trustees. Plan,
manage and review client portfolio according to customer profile
and needs on order to recommend and justify appropriate types
of savings and investment. Discuss issues relating to portfolio
management, including the supply of and styles of management,
as affect the private and the institutional investor; asset
allocation, the role and mutual and pension funds, insurance
companies and banks.

Cancellation and Replacement class for EBA 6093 and EBA 6013-Kuching Branch

Dear All,

Greetings! In view of the upcoming Convocation, there are some changes to the time table:

9th and 10th of October - EBA 6093 Research Methods and Statistical Analysis (Prof Ahmad Shuib)-both classes will be conducted at BS1-CTF1.

23th and 24th of October - EBA 6013 Principle of Accounting (Dr. Mohamad)- both classes will be conducte at Senate Room, old campus.
